Goldendoodle Sizes Explained

Although the Golden Retriever can sometimes be bred into a variety of sizes, this is a much more common occurrence with Poodles.

That means that in less than 1 year, your Toy Goldendoodle will essentially be fully grown. Although this is a tough fact for a lot of owners to cope with, you can rejoice in knowing that your Toy Goldendoodle’s max size is virtually identical to the puppy height of a Standard Goldendoodle.

Miniature Goldendoodle

What you want to be careful of when picking out a Miniature Goldendoodle is that they are truly the size that you want. This can be particularly problematic for owners that want to get a Miniature Goldendoodle and not a Toy Goldendoodle (and vice versa). 

The reason for this is that some breeders do not differentiate between a Miniature and Toy Goldendoodle – lumping both size variations into one. It’s important that you firmly ask the breeder that you are dealing with that your pup will be a true Miniature, as it is easy to get duped. 

An indication of this will be the height of your Miniature Goldendoodle – with most reaching up to 17 inches. However, another factor is how long it takes your pup to develop. 

A normal Miniature Goldendoodle will take a bit longer to mature compared to a Toy variation. Most will become fully grown when they are around 1 year old, but it can take anywhere from 11 to 13 months. 

Cost

Depending on the breeding process, a Miniature Goldendoodle is usually a mix between a Toy Poodle and a Standard Goldendoodle – or a Toy Poodle with a Standard Golden Retriever. Much like with Toy Goldendoodles, Miniature variations are also in high demand, which can make them a bit more expensive.

 You can find Miniature Goldendoodles being sold for anywhere from $2,500 to $3,000 from a reputable breeder. 

Medium Goldendoodle

A lot of aspiring Goldendoodle owners find themselves on the fence between choosing a large and a small-sized pup. If that is the case for you, a Medium Goldendoodle is going to give you the best of both worlds.

Size & Development

The average Medium Goldendoodle’s size is roughly 17 to 20 inches and they can weigh anywhere from 35 to 50 lbs. The maturity process for Medium Goldendoodles is very similar to the Miniature option which usually takes anywhere from 11 to 13 months. However, 1 year is the most common timeframe you can expect. 

The size of this pup is a bit larger but not so much that it is not apartment friendly. The Medium Goldendoodle is the most dynamic size variation, as it can easily feel comfortable in the size of a full-sized home or even a standard apartment. If you do decide to get a Medium Goldendoodle for an apartment, just make sure that the pup gets enough exercise, as the smaller space and larger size will require them to be more active outside.

Unlike with the other Goldendoodle variations, you want to soak in the puppy years of a Medium-size even more, as you will begin to notice more dramatic changes in development. Toy and Miniature Goldendoodles will stay small or tiny for the rest of their lives but a Medium variation will get big quite quickly.
